Engineering Modern Apprenticeships

Are you looking to train a young employee interested in working within the engineering industry in subjects including: mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, maintenance or fabrication and welding?

Modern Apprenticeships programmes offer the chance for students to gain a recognised qualification in engineering. The cost of training is fully financed by Glasgow Clyde College, with funding from Skills Development Scotland (SDS). All you need to pay is the young person’s weekly wage.

Course content

SVQ Level 2 - This is delivered within the college and includes basic training in mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, maintenance or fabrication and welding. The college offers a flexible range of subjects and units which can be adopted to suit the needs of the employee and employer.

A National Certificate (NC) - Students will complete an NC in a specific engineering discipline at either SCQF Level 5 or 6. There is also a requirement to complete the following 5 core skills at SCQF Level 5:

  • Communications
  • Problem solving
  • Numeracy
  • Working with others
  • Information and communication technology.

SVQ Level 3 – This will be assessed in the work place to suit company requirements.

Teaching methods and assessment

All our programmes are delivered using a wide range of teaching techniques. All Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and EAL courses are continually assessed by written, on-line and oral assessment or by practical work. A dedicated engineering SVQ Assessor will be assigned
to work with your students for the duration of their training, this would involve regular visits to the workplace.

Entry requirements

Three National 4s, or equivalent, or a pass in a relevant (NC) course at SCQF Level 4 or equivalent. A place on the course is subject to an interview process.

Fees and materials

The cost of the training will be fully financed by Skills Development Scotland.

Outcome

All students will complete a Modern Apprenticeship in the specific engineering discipline selected by their employer.
