'Acting Up' at Glasgow Clyde College

Acting Up At Glasgow Clyde College

Glasgow Clyde College’s Prince’s Trust team has delivered its first Acting Up programme, a support initiative for adult learners and students looking to progress in further education or employment, as part of their Erasmus+ activity.

Working with other education providers across Europe, lecturers Thomas Walker and Jacqueline Kennedy attended the workshop in Porto, Portugal, where they learned a series of drama techniques which help to build confidence and skills through ice breakers and team building exercises.

The Acting Up programme encompasses over 60 different activities available for all partners, facilitators and beneficiaries to use as a toolkit within their own organisation.

Bringing their experience back to Glasgow, Thomas and Jacqueline adopted a number of the useful tools to carry out the first 12-week course at the College which saw 36 participants build trust between learners, build on confidence and interact with other team members.

Glasgow Clyde College will now deliver Acting Up as part of a 12-week course, six-times a year and will be offered in conjunction with its Prince’s Trust Development Programme.

Jim Anderson, Head of External Funding at Glasgow Clyde College, said: “Erasmus+ Acting Up project is a versatile programme which allows our trainers to adopt some of the techniques that may be suitable for one group, but offers flexibility to adopt activities that may be more appropriate for another group”.

“The suite of tools that are available to trainers and educators is exceptional and we will continue to develop Acting Up across the new academic year to ensure we are making the most of this opportunity to engage with adult learners who have been affected by unemployment, career transitions, or young people who are lacking in confidence to move forward in their education or career.”

Acting Up is a three-year funded programme through Erasmus+ which aims to modernise education, training and youth work across Europe for a variety of sectors, including educational organisations.
