Make it in Fashion'17

The nationally renowned School of Fashion and Textiles at Glasgow Clyde College is hosting a special event for all Scottish secondary school pupils interested in Fashion - Design, Technology and Textiles.

Pupils will be able to book onto a specialist workshop and try their hand at one of the specialisms offered by the school.

The workshops will take place in either a morning or afternoon session and there will be 12 places per workshop

Creating Printed Textiles                                                   

Using a screen and pigments to print a collection of fabric samples you can then chose your final print to place onto a tea towel.

Creating Woven Textiles   

Using a frame loom you will select a colour palette from yarns provided to make your own warp and weave a finished sample with your choice of colour and proportion.

Sewing an accessory
 

Try out industrial sewing machines and experiment with stitch control and accuracy before making a simple make up bag / pencil case.

Introduction to pattern drafting
 

You will work from a fashion design image and learn how to make a simple pattern for a skirt using the tools of the trade.

Draping on the stand 

Using the tailor dummies you will work on the stand creating interesting and dramatic shapes using different fabrics to help you understand how fabric drapes.  You will be able to take away a finished photograph of your creation as a record of your work.

Making an embellished fashion accessory
 
Working on the domestic machines using leather and felt you will make an applique wallet suitable for keeping ID cards / earphones etc in.

Fashion Illustration
Working to a brief and a fashion illustration block you will experiment with a variety of media to create your own final illustration.

Fashion Design
 
Working to a brief you will work through garment development processes to create a variety of sketch ideas for a collection of garments.
