This course will give a thorough introduction to sustainable and responsible fashion design and textiles practices. The course will include presentations, group discussions, workshops, practical design and making exercises.

What will I learn?

During the course you will learn about

  • The impact of current fashion lifecycles and resulting textile waste
  • Current approaches to fashion design for sustainability
  • Textiles and fabric choices
  • Designing to reduce the need to consume and you will explore garment value
  • Designing to reduce textile waste, including an introduction to zero waste pattern cutting; upcycling and recycling techniques; and circular design approaches

Entry requirements (minimum)

This course is open to all, but a keen interest in fashion design may be beneficial.
