This accredited course is designed for anyone interested in developing their Counselling Skills, either for career or work enhancement, or for personal growth, development, and understanding, or as a starting point for a career change. Please note that this qualification will not qualify you as a counselor, but it could be the starting point on that journey.

This course will provide you with opportunities to become familiar with and practice with a wide range of counselling skills and approaches while gaining an understanding of the theories of counselling.

What will I learn?

The course would be beneficial to those looking to improve their own communication, listening, and engagement skills. It is aimed at those working in people centred roles such as Guidance, Personnel, Human Resources, Management, Social Services, Health Services and Welfare Services. In addition, this course is suited to anyone wishing to pursue a future career in counselling or psychotherapy.

The course consists of 4 interdependent modules of 30 hours

  • Modules 1 and 2 will focus on listening and responding skills and seek to develop the participant’s self-awareness. The modules are practice based and introduce the core conditions which underpin the major counselling approaches.
  • Modules 3 and 4 will introduce the main counselling approaches and present ethical issues and dilemmas within counselling.  Learning is still practice based and Module 4 integrates all the learning of skills, knowledge and self-awareness.
  • You must complete modules 1 to 4 to receive the certificate.

  • Each module requires approximately 30 hours of study.

  • The course involves practical exercises, including skills practice, skills observation, and reflective feedback.

All course materials will be available on the college’s VLE ( Virtual Learning Environment) CANVAS.
