Phlebotomists are trained professionals that draw blood from a patient for clinical or medical testing, transfusions, donations, or research.
What will I learn?
This phlebotomy course covers the following topics:
- an introduction to phlebotomy
- infection control
- health and safety
- consent
- professional accountability
- anatomy of the skin and arm
- venepuncture
Although this course covers the theory and practical techniques of phlebotomy, it will not make you competent to work as a phlebotomist. Following this course, you should be observed and signed off by a qualified practitioner.
This competence is not part of the course and you will need to arrange this practice opportunity with your employer or placement provider. This course does however, provide opportunities for personal development which can be recorded on a Curriculum Vitae and will support an application for employment in this field. It will also support professional development for those already working in the sector and may lead to employment as a phlebotomist.
