The Floristry Level 1 Award is aimed at anyone wishing to work in floristry but who have no prior experience. If you are interested in working with flowers and foliage and would like to use your creative skills to learn techniques to use them to enhance a range of occasions, this course could be for you.

This is a City & Guilds Qualification; the units cover a range of practical designs for weddings, funerals and gift arrangements. These are constructed by hand tying, wiring or constructed in floral foam, a range of which will be gift-wrapped. You will learn how to identify a range of flowers and foliage in common commercial use, how to care for them and condition them to be ready for sale.

What will I learn?

During the Floristry Level 1 Award you'll study:

  • Safe and effective working practices in land-based industries which provides details of professional guidance while working in the floristry industry.
  • Assembling basic floral designs, which includes designing various floral arrangements to suit all occasions.

You'll be taught by award wining lecturers who provide professional lectures on a range of current floristry trends.

Assessments will be continuous with a mix of practical and theoretical. The course includes an online multiple-choice exam in Health & Safety.

Please note the fees are for tuition and sundries only, flowers are required as an addition and may be £15 - £20 per week.

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • There is no previous experience required for this course
  • Basic communication and numeracy skills are essential and it would be an advantage to have some creative experience, for example in art, design or crafts.
