This exciting Care Intern Partnership course: Glasgow Health and Social Care offers you the chance to complete a college course together with a paid placement from the Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (GCHSCP).
This unique course is aimed at those with a genuine interest in working in older adult services. This work is about helping people to live well and achieve the things in life that really matter to them. You’ll go home each day knowing you made a difference.
If you want a career where the work is highly rewarding, where you can progress, have job security, and get an enormous sense of personal achievement from knowing you are helping other people, then adult social care is for you.

During this Care Intern Partnership course: Glasgow Health and Social Care you will also receive academic guidance and support from both the College and GCHSCP.
The GCHSCP runs five main care service centres through the city so you would be able to carry out your placement at the one nearest to where you live. You can find out more about the centres here.

Your days in college will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (Monday for the first twelve weeks only) and your days on placement with GCHSCP will be Thursday and Friday for six hours each day, or you can work 12 hours on one of these days.
Entry requirements (minimum)
- You must be 18 years or over to apply and have a good standard of basic education preferably having completed two / three National 5s, or equivalent, including English.
- You should demonstrate values which promote the well-being of older people, and have a desire to support others with compassion and kindness while respecting their rights and choices within their daily lives.
- Consideration will also be given to applicants with existing care work experience.
When you complete the course application form, you will see there is a 'Personal Statement' section. Please use the 'Personal Statement' section to outline the qualities and skills you have to offer to care services and why you would like to work in care services.
You will be invited to an Information Session which will include an Interview. The interview will be with the College and a representative from GCHSCP. These will be held on Tuesday 8 October 2024.
Following interview, should you be successful you will require to carry out Pre-Employment checks with the GCHSCP Human Resource Team. These will include Right to Work in the UK and PVG Protection of Vulnerable Group check (PVG). GCHSCP will cover the cost of this PVG application.

Jobs and further study
Following successful completion of the course and internship you will be guaranteed an interview for a permanent Social Care Assistant 24 hour per week (2 x 12 hour shift pattern) within GCHSCP Older People’s Residential Care Homes.
The role of a Social Care Assistant within the GCHSCP is not only a rewarding job but could be the beginning of a great career doing life-changing work. To work in social care you need the right qualities, but you also gain qualifications while on the job. When you work for the partnership you are supported to embark on a continuous learning pathway helping you gain the skills and knowledge that are required for your role. Once you achieve your qualifications and have gained some experience, there are lots of opportunities to step up into more senior roles.
Making an application
For courses starting in August, you can make up to two applications.
Applications are made to a course and a first choice of campus. If the course is oversubscribed at your first choice you will be automatically considered for alternative sites and may be made an offer without a further application.

When you apply
You will receive an automated email confirming that we have received your application (remember to check your SPAM folder).
Your application will be reviewed by the admissions team and you will either be:
- Invited to attend an information/interview session. Joint interviews with the college and GCHSCP will be held from October. If successful you will be required to complete a PVG Disclosure check (or update a current one) following your offer of a place.
- Advised that your application is unsuccessful – you have not met the entry requirements for this course and are advised to contact the College Student Advice Centres to discuss alternative options which may be available to you.
- We aim not to reject an application and if you don’t meet the entry requirements you may be referred to a different course or level.
If you are invited to interview, you will be informed of the outcome of your interview by email within 14 working days. The outcome will be one of the following:
- Unconditional offer of a place – you have met all the entry requirements and your place is guaranteed. You will be required to accept this offer to secure your place.
- Conditional offer of a place – your place is secured pending you meeting the entry requirements. This may mean achieving school or college qualifications which you may not be able to provide to us yet. You will be required to accept this offer to secure your conditional place. Once your conditions are met this will change to an unconditional offer of a place which you must accept before you can enrol on the course.
- Waiting list – you have met all entry requirements, and have been interviewed however, the course is now full so you have been placed on a waiting list. If any spaces become available you may be contacted, usually around the course start date. We would advise that you also consider other application options.
- Reserve list – following your interview, you have unfortunately not been successful in this round of recruitment. We have placed your name on a Reserve list and your application may be reconsidered at a later date. This could happen any time up to the start date of the course but it is very possible that you will not be offered a place. We would advise that you also consider other application options.
- Unsuccessful – your interview has been unsuccessful. You may be offered a place on a course at a different level, or advised to contact the College Student Advice Centres to discuss alternative options which may be available to you.
Once an offer is received, you must reply within 14 working days or risk losing your place, as the system will automatically decline your offer after 14 days.
Once you have accepted your offer, you will be sent out instructions about student funding, joining instructions and induction date. This will normally be sent out in June
