The renewable energy market is growing fast. The BPEC Solar PV Systems is recognised by Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and supports applications to become MCS registered.
Designed for qualified electricians, this course doesn’t just cover the theory it also provides hands-on experience in fitting solar PV equipment in our state-of-the-art workshops which complements face-to-face delivery.
Candidates must hold an SVQ Level 3 in e.g. Electrical Installation and be registered under a Competent Persons Scheme with BS 7671 requirements for Electrical Installations qualification.

What will I learn?
Course fee: £650 and includes training, assessment, BPEC manual, registration and certification. The IET Code of Practice Solar Photovoltaic Systems, 2nd Edition is available at an additional cost of £76.00.

Aimed at qualified electricians, this course is designed to provide the required skills and knowledge to install small-scale photovoltaic (PV) systems and an understanding of all the legal issues surrounding the installation of these systems. This includes guidance on completion and submission of all the appropriate notifications.
The course covers:
- Photovoltaic panels in the context of renewable technologies
- How a Photovoltaic system works – principles and components
- Design of a PV system
- Installation of a PV system
- Commissioning and Client Hand Over
- Maintenance and Fault Finding
- Control and power requirements
- System commissioning and handover to client
This course is categorised as part-time commercial training and is not eligible for any fee waiver or funding via the College. The student is liable for the payment of fees, unless an external training grant or employer support is confirmed at time of booking.
Entry requirements (minimum)
All candidates must have BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations (18th Edition) qualification and a formal craft qualification such as:
- SVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (Buildings and Structures)
OR
- Equivalent earlier certification that includes Inspection & Testing
Stand-alone technical certificates, vocational or non-competency qualifications are NOT accepted.
