What will I learn?

Interactive online training sessions start Thursday 1st May 2025 @ 6pm. The course duration is one evening per week for 12 weeks (Thursdays)
Delegates will then attend the Cardonald Campus for the final National Written Exam, Thursday 12 June 2025 @ 1830hrs.

The City & Guilds - Design, Erection and Verification of Electrical Installations (2396-01) is aimed at qualified electricians who hold the current Wiring Regulations certificate - 18th Edition (2nd amendment recommended) and have practical experience in the inspection and testing of electrical installation.
This Level 4 electrical design course covers installation and design focusing on the implications of the Wiring Regulations for the design and erection of new electrical installations.
It also includes in-depth circuit design calculations to the 18th Edition and provides a comprehensive understanding of circuit design and verification. This, in turn, will provide you with the aptitude and confidence to design installations.
Assessment:
Additional attendance required out with the training sessions:
- National Written Exam (set and marked by City &
Guilds - where possible the College will deliver the training to coincide with the exam) - Distance Learning Project (design of a 3-phase commercial grade property in own time and due 3 months after the written exam). Fundamental IT skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office are essential to support the completion of the project.
As this course is categorised as part-time commercial training, it is not eligible for any fee waiver or funding via the College. The student is liable for the payment of fees, unless an external training grant or employer support is confirmed at time of booking.
Entry requirements (minimum)
This course is for qualified electricians who must hold current certifications which demonstrate an understanding of:
- Current Wiring Regulations BS7671 18th Edition (amendment 2) certificate and associated IET Regulations textbook
- Inspection and Testing (e.g. C&Gs 2391-52) certificate and the IET Guidance Note 3 textbook
In addition candidates must have:
- Demonstratable and relevant electrical industry experience
- Intermediate IT skills including knowledge of and familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 software (essential for access to learning materials and completion of the project)
Entrants must be 18+ years of age.
These entry requirements are stipulated by the College as per recommendations from City & Guilds to ensure candidates have the potential and opportunity to successfully complete the course.
Where entry requirements are not demonstrated your place on the course maybe subject to review.
Jobs and further study
On completion of this course, candidates will be able to confidently design, erect and verify electrical installations.
