3011V1 Principles, skills and impact of coaching and mentoring

This unit is about the core principles, skills and impact of coaching and mentoring on individuals and teams.

On completion of the unit, you will:

  • Understand the principles of coaching and mentoring
  • Understand the skills required of a coach
  • Understand the skills required of a mentor
  • Understand the impact of coaching and mentoring on individual, team and organisational performance

3014V1 Coaching and mentoring processes

This unit is about understanding the implementation of the coaching and mentoring process and the provision of feedback on progress and achievement.

On completion of the unit, you will:

  • Understand the implementation of the coaching and mentoring process
  • Understand the reviewing of progress and provision of feedback

Assignments and accreditation:
Participants are required to submit an assignment for each unit.

The qualifications have been designed for practising or aspiring managers in roles such as:

  • Team Leader
  • Supervisor
  • Project Officer
  • Shift Manager
  • Foreperson

CMI Level 3 coaching and mentoring units are delivered distance learning with 1-2-1 remote support visits from the tutor as required. It is expected that learners will complete this Certificate within 6 months.

CMI Levels explained:

Levels 2 and 3
Designed for aspiring, supervisory or first-line managers. Levels 2 and 3 offer a broad range of knowledge, ranging from team leading to project and resource management.

Levels 4 and 5
For mid-managers, Levels 4 and 5 are more appropriate as they focus on developing core management skills such as managing resources, recruitment and information management.

Levels 6 and 7
Levels 6 and 7 are developed for senior managers who have the responsibility to translate organisational strategy into effective performance.
