This PDA in Setting up a Counselling Practice at SCQF level 8 provides the first nationally quality assured qualification for the counselling sector that is designed to provide learners with the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of the factors involved when setting up a counselling practice in the statutory, voluntary or independent sector.

What will I learn?

In this award candidates will study the following 3 units;

  • Counselling: Setting up a Practice
  • Counselling: Professional Standards
  • Preparing to Start a Business

This PDA in Setting up a Counselling Practice at SCQF level 8 is aimed at professionally qualified counsellors (or those currently undertaking a professional qualification) who wish to set up in practice. Ideally you will have achieved the HNC in Counselling or the HND in Counselling or the BACPs Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) prior to accessing this course. 

This course will be delivered on Tuesday evenings at Cardonald Campus from 6.30pm to 9.30pm for 30 weeks. Delivery will be a combination of face to face and online teaching.  

Entry requirements (minimum)

Learners should be qualified counsellors wishing to set up their own counselling practice.  Ideally you should have an HNC or HND in Counselling.  However entry to the course is a the discretion of the college, and evidence of suitability for the course may be obtained either at interview and or written assignment.

Making an application

For courses starting in August, you can make up to two applications.

Applications are made to a course and a first choice of campus. If the course is oversubscribed at your first choice you will be automatically considered for alternative sites and may be made an offer without a further application.
