Tim Pope Workshops with Film and Media Students
What a treat we had this week, welcoming renowned film and music video director Tim Pope to our Cardonald Campus for two days of workshops with our tv and film, media and journalism students. Tim has worked with musical greats including David Bowie, Neil Young, Fatboy Slim and The Cure, as well as directing in Hollywood.
The first day consisted of a screenwriting workshop, and the concept of taking a script to the screen. The second day he focussed on sharing a broader insight into his impressive 40+ year career. Tim discussed the production of some of his most well-known pieces of work, as well as sharing news of some up coming projects. He also took the time to answer many questions from students, and shared the background to some of the production techniques he used in some of his most well known music videos, including The Cure's 'Lullaby'.
Asked about the benefit of taking time to discuss his work and share his experience with students Tim commented, ” Very early on in my own career, I really wanted to get into an industry (film making) which was incredibly difficult to get into - and I know it still is, and there were a few key people at that point in my life who just showed me kindness. I’ve always just carried that kindness with me and it’s something I feel in my heart of wanting to talk and encourage younger people, i.e. students, to bring the wisdom that I can bring to them, and it’s that simple. So I think there’s a sense of wanting to give back."
We're very grateful to Tim for taking so much time to speak with our students.
