This course aims to provide you with an Introduction to Fashion Textiles. This is a very practical course and will be based in the excellent studio facilities we have at the Cardonald campus. You will focus on developing a personal theme, drawing, design development and textile skills, including print, embroidery, fabric construction, and surface decoration.

This course will assist to further develop of your research skills and will encourage you to build upon your communication and presentation skills, which are requirement of working in the industry. Additionally, completing this course will also help to increase your confidence, assist you to create a coherent portfolio and you will also get the opportunity to work alongside other creative courses and be taught by staff that have a breadth of industry experience.

Please note that this course is delivered in a way which will complement any creative subjects you are currently undertaking at school.

Qualification Breakdown

The course consists of four SQA units at SCQF Level 5 and 6 and you will receive a college certificate. Please note that this is not a full group award:

  • Creative Textile Development (SCQF level 6)
  • Surface Decoration Introduction (SCQF level 5)
  • Design Realisation (SCQF level 5)
  • Art and Design Project (SCQF level 5)

Entry requirements

It would be beneficial to have:

  • National 5 Art and Design or  National 5 Fashion and Textiles
  • Higher Art and Design or Higher Fashion and Textiles

Attendance Pattern

You will attend  college on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 13:30 - 16:00

Progression Pathways

Successful completion of the Award could lead to progression onto the HND Textiles, HND Fashion Design, HND Fashion Technology and HND Fashion Communications courses.

The level you might enter would depend on the level and relevance of your other qualifications.

From an HND course students can articulate onto 2nd or 3rd year of a related Degree programme or find employment within the Creative Industries.
