The central theme of the Higher Psychology course is to enable you to investigate psychological knowledge and research, which will promote your understanding of individual and social behaviour. You will analyse and evaluate concepts, theories, and approaches, and will draw on research evidence to explain human behaviour.

Qualification Breakdown

Higher Psychology SCQF Level 6, Units you will study are:

  • Psychology: Research
  • Psychology: Individual Behaviour
  • Psychology: Social Behaviour

This course is very demanding in terms of written work, study at home and group work.

Course assessments include an assignment. This assignment requires you to carry out your own primary research based on a brief and produce a psychological research report. The class will design the research in groups, collect data and analyse. Reports must be written up individually, but you will be given support.

Entry requirements

You must have:

  • Higher English at A or B level.

Other Social subjects may be considered with this same grade (Higher History, Modern Studies, or Geography). However, this would be dependent on there being spaces available on the course.

Target Year Group: S6

Attendance Pattern

You will attend college on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons 13:30 - 16:00

Progression Pathways

On successful completion of the course, you will be given the opportunity of internal progression within Glasgow Clyde. You might go on to do:

  • HNC/D courses in social science

The level you might enter would depend on the level and relevance of your other qualifications.
