Journalism
Glasgow Clyde College offers a wide range of courses in journalism – from Level 5 to HND and professional qualifications.
The HND Journalism and Content Production course runs over two years and can prepare students to work in the industry or can lead them to university to complete a degree.
Our NCTJ fast-track diploma can help those who have just completed a degree to learn the essential journalistic skills within six months. The college has been accredited with NCTJ for over 20 years. Since our new course started in 2020, 90% of our candidates have achieved a diploma.
Or if you are just starting out with your further education journey in journalism, you can study with us on NQ Media and Journalism (Level 5).
Former Glasgow Clyde students are now working at national media organisations such as BBC Scotland, STV, the Glasgow Times, the National, Daily Record, as well as for local media such as the Greenock Telegraph, the Dundee Evening Telegraph and The Oban Times. Our HND students also have the option to carry out further study at university, with most choosing either Glasgow Caledonian University or the University of the West of Scotland.
We work closely with a number of industry partners, including BBC Scotland. Our students have the opportunity to undertake work experience here and with a wide range of other employers. We also work closely with working journalists and editors to deliver guest lectures, workshops and site visits.
All classes are delivered by staff who have worked in journalism and are aware of the ever-changing requirements of this fast-paced industry. Learning also exists outside the classroom and students get the opportunity to visit the Scottish Parliament, the courts in Glasgow, the UK Parliament in London as well as newsrooms.
Have a look at our courses to see where you could start your career in journalism.
